It takes a very secure man to focus on his plate even as an angry leopard overhead threatens to make a meal out of him. Be prepared for just this at Pratap's Wild Dining, a forest-themed restaurant in Andheri's Oshiwara. You will be welcomed by a man in a leopard-printed shirt at the entrance, along with warnings like 'Do not feed animals' and 'Hunting is not allowed'.
The restaurant is almost pitch dark, with candles lighting up the tables. Be prepared to be greeted by men dressed like hunters, an angry, fake gorilla, a massive crocodile under a wooden bridge, and adivasi mannequins dressed in skirts made of leaves. The décor features a synchronised simulation effect, with the lights going off periodically even as eerie jungle sounds emanate from speakers and spotlights move from one animal to another.
The interiors of this wild eatery were inspired by the forests of Nainital, where owner Sanjay Pratap grew up. Moreover, there's sumptuous fare to be dug into under the canopy of trees that many have mistaken for real. "Even adults touch these trees in wonder, and I have to explain that I can't possibly plant trees on the third floor," Pratap says.
